18 Wheeler Crashes into Stalled Greyhound Bus on I 45 in Montgomery County
The morning news revealed another tragic 18 Wheeler/bus crash. A southbound 18 Wheeler collided with a stalled Greyhound bus near Interstate 45 and the Woodlands Parkway. The bus was traveling from Dallas to Houston and became disabled around 2:30 a.m. The crash happened at 5 a.m.
Both the trucking company and the Greyhound bus company need to be investigated. A root cause investigation will determine not just what happened, but why it happened. Some questions for the trucking company are: Why did the truck driver not see the disabled bus? Was the truck driver fatigued? Was the truck driver distracted? Were there any mechanical issues?
Questions also need to be asked of the Greyhound bus company. Some questions are: What happened to cause the bus to break down? Was it, or was it not, mechanically sound when it left the Dallas terminal? Also, since the bus had been disabled for nearly 2 ½ hours did the bus driver place reflective triangles behind the bus to warn approaching motorists of its presence? These issues and many more need to be investigated to determine the root cause of this needless tragedy.
In my experience, law enforcement will perform only minimal investigations. The best way for those injured by this senseless crash is to obtain an investigation through a private attorney who understands how to investigate trucking companies and bus companies.
