Teen truck drivers may soon be on the roads

When you have to share the road with 18-wheelers, it’s very easy to feel how much bigger and more dangerous those vehicles are. The statistics bear this out. Most of the time, when a semi-truck is involved in an accident, it is those in the smaller vehicle who have greater odds of being injured.

This is why it’s so important for drivers to be well-trained and experienced. They also need to be mentally and emotionally mature, and they need to be ready to drive in a reliable and safe manner at all times. This is a professional job, and it takes a professional level of dedication.

The supply chain crisis

The problem is that there has been a supply chain crisis lately, and goods have not moved across the country as smoothly as they once did. Part of the reason for this is that there are simply not enough truck drivers.

One solution may be to allow teenagers to drive trucks. There are teens who may accept a lower wage to carry out this job, so they could create an influx of new drivers when they’re needed most.

As you’re probably already thinking, this also raises a lot of serious risks. Teenagers are well known for their high crash rates. They are inherently inexperienced drivers. Is it wise to put them in trucks that are so likely to injure others? It will be very interesting to see how this plays out in the months and years to come, so just make sure you know about your legal options if you get injured in a crash.
